Hey, everybody! I enjoy following the trends of pop music, and I have read multiple blogs that talk about one of the well-known thresholds of music that gets shared out there today, the Sirius XM Hits 1 Weekend Countdown that plays every Saturday and Sunday. In it, Spyder Harrison takes the 45 most Whatchuwanted voted for songs and plays them back to back. Most of the songs on it tend to be songs that are hits, such as on the Billboard Hot 100, but there are always a handful of songs you'll see there that never get their chance to appear there. As I said, I've seen multiple blogs that recap this countdown, and since I like this trend, I figured, hey, may as well get into it too. I also might post other stuff, such as Billboard related subjects, or occasional reviews of certain songs. But the main thing this is for is the countdown. Here's the formatting order I'll be using:
First, I put a picture of the act that took the #1 slot. Then...
1. Prelude - Here, I give my forethoughts before I get to the actual countdown.
2. Leaving songs - A quick list of the songs that leave the countdown.
3. The Countdown! - The countdown, including last week's #1 song, all 45 songs, and the song that was #1 one year from this week, which they play before #1.
And when I review the countdown, I use a color code to illustrate what I think of the songs. So, just as a reference, here is the color code. I'll be using the same standard one by most other bloggers in this vein.
Purple = My favorite song on the countdown
Green = Great song, thoroughly welcome its presence
Blue = Good/decent song, don't care if it stays or leaves
Pink = Song is close to getting old, some of its appeal may remain but not as much
Yellow = Song is old and has basically lost its appeal and should move down
Turquoise = Song is really old and needs to leave or I'll probably hate it
Red = Song is bad and needs to leave
Orange = My least favorite song on the countdown
Dark Yellow = Song is old but I still like it and don't mind if it stays
Dark green = I either have no real opinion on the song, have never heard it or don't remember it
4. New Entrants - I discuss my thoughts on the new songs (re-)entering, as to what I may or may not like about them, if I think they'll do good or not, what have you.
5. Blurbs - I give my thoughts on what I observe on the countdown and certain movements.
6. Hit-Bound* - Here are the songs that are starting to gain steam, most of them make the countdown at some point but not all of them do. I won't have this every week, particularly if there aren't many new entries.
7. My Bottom/Top 5 Picks - My top 5 least favorite and favorite songs on the countdown. And if I do Hit-Bound I'll probably have my Top 5 favorites from there.
8. Breakdown of the Top 20 songs on the countdown - Here, I take the Top 20 songs from the countdown and rank them on a 5-point scale, and take what they come out to out of 100.
9. Extras - Here, I'll occasionally put things I find worth mentioning, such as...
Most Missed Song: A popular song from a previous year that I've missed.
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1 And The Countdown: A (usually new) song that I think would fit well on the countdown and should debut on Hits 1.
Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago: The songs that debuted on the countdown one year from the present week along with my thoughts on them.
I'll also occasionally do fun things like Billboard Year-End Hot 100 rankings. I'll try to think of different things that I may be able to do here, like maybe my favorite songs by certain acts. But I'll do them when I think of them.
For that matter, on different occasions that aren't the countdown, there will be another color code:
Red = Shit
Orange = Least favorite song
Turquoise = Bad
Yellow = Meh
Pink = Decent
Blue = Good
Green = Great
Purple = Favorite song
Here are some of the things I'll use this color code for:
- "One Year Ago" pieces (#1, plus debuts)
- The Year-End Countdown retrospective
- Billboard Year-End Hot 100 retrospectives
- Other things I might not think of right now
So I'll try to do what I can when it comes to this blog and keep it updated. That being said, I'm not the best at being consistent, but I'll try to make it fun. Thanks for reading, everybody!
Please change from Dark Red to Dark Yellow.
